What coaching is not

Coaching can be often confused with related fileds and it may be worth highlighting here that it is not the same as mentoring, guiding, consulting, counselling, or therapy.

Mentoring is often provided by someone who is a subject matter expert in a specific field (IT industry, career development and so forth). On the other hand, coaching is a journey of self-discovery that helps the clients develop their own unique solutions.

Similarly, consulting involves the consultant providing advice on specific areas of business - strategy, marketing, processes, people management and so forth. As against that, executive coaching relies on helping the business leaders build a clearer vision of their business and their professional effectiveness through personal reflections.

Therapy differs from coaching too. Therapy tends to focus on the past and often delves into the root cause of the problem. Coaching is far more focused on the future and towards creating solutions.
